Carol Metcalf

I am a South African of 1/8 or 1/16 Cornish descent. (My great grandfather, Ernest Alfred Martin HARRIS, was born in St Martin in Meneage, Cornwall in 1866. His mother, Anne Best RICHARDS, was Cornish, but his father, Richard HARRIS, was either Irish- or English-born). I live in the United States, but the rest of my immediate family live in South Africa and England. I am interested in hearing from Cornish cousins, wherever in the world they may live.

I enjoy piecing together my family history, traveling, bicycling, outdoor activities, and reading. I am a Unitarian Universalist with an interest in Celtic paganism. I am also interested in world affairs and conservation of the environment. I work as an epidemiologist doing HIV/STD prevention research.

Puzzles I am trying to solve are:

1. Details on the maiden name and family of origin of Tobias MARTIN's
2nd wife, Anne JAMES, widow of Porthleven, who he married in Breage in
1792. Tobias Martin, 1747-1828, was a mine captain and poet.

2. Details on the 4 sons of Tobias Martin (1747-1828) who emigrated to the US
and their descendents. These include Tobias Martin
(1782 - 1826) who was murdered in Washington DC, and 2 others who are
reported to have died of yellow fever. The other 3 sons besides Tobias
who emigrated were most likely Solomon Martin (1786 - ?), John Martin
(c1795 - ?), and Edward Martin (c1798 - ?).
