Glynis Millett-Clay

My name is Glynis MILLETT-CLAY (nee COCK) and I live in Benoni, South Africa.

Many hours of work and research have been put into the research and documentation of my ancestors. MILLETT-CLAY being a unique name and only a handful in the world, was conceived in South Africa. Our MILLETT name comes from Lostwithiel, Cornwall and CLAY from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in England. MILLETT-CLAY in particular had a lot of mystery attached to it and at long last I have conquered this mystery and found out how the two names eventually connect. When my husbands grandfather came out to South Africa during the Anglo Boer War (1899-1901), he got married, had 5 sons, the first one being baptized with the name MILLETT as part of his christian name and CLAY his surname and the other 4 sons all were baptized as MILLETT-CLAY which has been carried down from generation to generation. The COCK side of my family comes from Camborne, Cornwall. My grandfather came out to South Africa in the early 1920's as a carpenter. He comes from a family of Builders & Contractors as his father and grandfather had a business called W. J. COCK & Sons, Builders & Contractors in Camborne. My COCK family lived in Vyvyan Street and the numbers being 12, 13, 15, 17, 24, 27 and 31 respectively. My great great grandfather William COCK was a Superintendent in the "Old Bible Christian Chapel" in Camborne as well as a Steward and Sunday School Secretary. He also sang in the choir and was a member of this church for over 60 years. When it closed down, he became associated with the Trelowarren Street United Methodist Church.

He was also one of the earliest shipping agents in Camborne and was one of the original members and the last survivor of the Camborne Volunteer Company which was formed under the late Major W. Bickford. He was also one of the first members of the Camborne Volunteer Fire Brigade which was formed under Captain Josiah ROWE

I have not yet found a MILLETT, CLAY, or COCK family tree or website so have decided to grow my own trees. With their various branches, I am hoping that once I put this onto the internet, new growth will take place and so when these trees reach maturity (in my time) my children and grand children will carry on where I left off.

I hope you will benefit from the information I present here and I ask anyone on the internet to contribute towards the growth.
